To me, the calories and the carbs seem too high and the range is also spread too much. But I am no expert, I am thinking on logic here.

What do you think about the program that the Spark People calculator produced for me? Spot on or flawed?

I’m 7 months into a diet and have already lost 67 pounds. I’m a little over half way to my goal and have started lifting weights in addition to my daily cardio routine in an effort to help add definition to the loose skin that is starting to appear. I previously had been against protein shakes and other types of muscle building enhancers; however, a friend of mine recently gave me some muscle milk to try after a work out. Reluctantly I obliged and to my surprise not only did I feel better the next day, I actually liked the taste as well. So now I’m on the search for protein shake that fits my needs. My primary question is which of the two aforementioned shakes should I use, and secondly should I use them as a meal replacement or a snack after workout. My primary goal is to lose weight/fat, muscle gain falls second to that. I realize gaining muscle adds to my overall weight, but I have a lot more fat to lose and I don’t feel it’s possible to add muscle weight faster than I lose fat. Help me out. 23 year old male. 250lbs.

If I follow the food pyramid tailored for me, run at LEAST a mile a day, and do a cardio workout a day, how long do you think it would take to lose roughly 20lbs of body fat?

I’m 6′1” and weight 174 lbs.

I just don’t understand how you can lose body fat if you’re eating meats and grains.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi! I have been doing p90x AND Insanity. I am on my 6 week of p90x & week 4 of Insanity. I do the Insanity program first and then p90x since it is mostly strength. I have no trouble completing p90x… Insanity is hard though… and if I get anyone saying Insanity is easy then you are amazing ;)
I lost weight pretty quickly BEFORE I started the programs by just eating better and cardio. I have been taking measurements and my clothes are fitting much looser or even falling off, so I know my body is changing and I am gaining muscle, but it seems to have slow waaay down!!! How do get this fat to come off quicker? Am I not eating enough maybe? I try to stick to no more than 1400 c/day. I do not ever eat fast food, soda and I am a celiac so I don’t eat wheat, just oatmeal, rice ect. I do have a coffee habit though, but if it’s Starbucks I stick to skinny lattes.

Typical workout 6 days a week: One of the Insanity (cardio circuits/plyo ect.) workouts then p90x (either plyo/strength/kenpo ect).

I’ll eat gluten free oatmeal made with almond milk & blueberries. Snack is a GF balance bar. Lunch salad w lots of veggies, almonds and either tuna or chicken. Snack: Apple and almonds or GF balance bar. Dinner chicken w rice and some veggie.

Fat Loss Turbulence Training Hi,

I have been working out for last 6 months and last week I purchased Craig’s TurbulenceTraining program.

I have a query regarding my nutrition plan. I am 150 lbs with 18.5% body fat.

In last one month I have gained 2 kgs of muscle and 1 kg of fat. I take my weight & body fat after 2 weeks, I have noticed that muscle gain has remained the same but my body fat is increasing.

As of now I am totally clueless as to what is happening, I have not made any dramatic changes in my diet the only thing I started taking was a muscle gain supplement (which I started in last week of May).

I am thinking of reducing my intake of carbohydrates (esp. the muscle gain supplement, reducing that to 2 scoops instead of 4). Is this normal. Could you guys suggest any other carbohydrates that would help me reduce the fat and increase muscle at the same time.

Why Am I Giving Away Free Supplement?

Maybe, just maybe, man should sacrifice their existence for the sake of their Mother Earth. Yes, that maybe the solution…

The existence on Earth is a gift to man. But man want more than they can take. Therefore, man do not deserve Earth.

Important Facts About Carbohydrates

The carbohydrates are very important for the body’s metabolism as it is the main source of energy which fuels our body cells. There are two types of carbohydrates namely refined carbohydrates and unrefined natural carbohydrates.

The fiber content of refined carbohydrates is very poor hence they are also called bad carbohydrates. Refined carbohydrates are found in foods made of refined white flour,sweets,ice cream and are easily converted to glucose and quickly absorbed into the blood stream. This increased level of glucose in the blood stream triggers the production of insulin in pancreas to bring down the glucose levels in the blood stream. When glucose levels drop,the body cells and the brain cells are starved of glucose which is the source of energy. This causes the brain to activate the hunger center in the brain to order for more food consumption.

The excess food intake causes more rise in glucose levels which again triggers more insulin production. The excess calories are converted into fat and stored. When this process is repeated over a period of time the pancreas is weakened due to the continuous excess production of insulin and wears out resulting in less and less production of insulin leading to diabetes. The increased insulin production also inhibits the production of protein called ‘glucagon’ the main job of which is to burn fat cells for energy. Due to low levels of this protein, the fat is stored,not burned.

The unrefined natural carbohydrates are called good carbohydrates because they take time to get converted into glucose and hence absorbed into the blood stream gradually causing gradual increase of insulin levels. This low level of insulin production causes less fat storage.Besides good carbohydrates contain more fiber and fills the stomach quickly reducing the food intake. Good carbohydrates take time to get digested due to high fiber content causing more fat to be burned for the process of digestion.

Low carbohydrate diets are harmful to health. Low carbohydrate diets make the body burn not only fat but also protein which is bad for the muscle tissues affecting muscle development. Prolonged intake of low carbohydrate diet may cause kidney and liver problems. A diet of good carbohydrate with low fat content is good for health. It is advisable to avoid low carbohydrate diets at all costs.
